Abstract
The text explains the organization of college and university libraries and their holdings, typical staff positions and their functions, and typical policies regarding the use of library materials. It also describes the card catalog and the catalog card, reference collections, and periodicals and their manual and automated indexes. Finally, it discusses and demonstrates an effective method of research documentation and suggests techniques for developing a research paper from the choice of the initial topic to its completion.
