THIS FILM PRESENTS AN OVERVIEW OF MODERN CRIME SOLVING TECHNIQUES WHICH UTILIZE NEW SCIENTIFIC METHODS AND DISCUSSES THEIR APPLICATIONS TO POLICE INVESTIGATION AND THE LIVES OF PRIVATE CITIZENS.
Abstract
THIS STATE-OF-THE-ART DESCRIPTION OF INVENTIONS WHICH HAVE BEEN MADE AVAILABLE TO POLICE CRIME PREVENTION UNITS IS INTENDED FOR PUBLIC EDUCATION AS WELL AS INSERVICE TRAINING OF POLICE OFFICERS. SCIENCE AND INDUSTRY HAVE WORKED TOGETHER TO DEVELOP MANY NEW METHODS AND INVENTIONS WHICH WILL AID IN THE INVESTIGATION AND PREVENTION OF CRIMES. IN THE COMMUNICATIONS AREA, HOME SECURITY SYSTEMS WITH A DIRECT LINK TO THE POLICE STATION HAVE BEEN DEVELOPED. OTHER INVENTIONS INCLUDE A DUAL PURPOSE FLASHLIGHT/MACE SQUIRTER, INTENDED FOR USE BY WOMEN WHEN WALKING THEIR DOGS AT NIGHT. SECURITY GUARDS HAVE BEEN PROVIDED WITH SOPHISTICATED ELECTRONIC SURVEILLANCE EQUIPMENT WHICH ALLOWS THEM TO MONITOR THE ENTRANCES OF SEVERAL BUILDINGS AT THE SAME TIME BY WAY OF A NETWORK OF CLOSED-CIRCUIT TELEVISION SCREENS. FORENSIC TECHNICIANS USE A WIDE VARIETY OF NEW TESTS ALLOWING THEM TO ANALYZE LATENT FINGERPRINTS AND BALLISTIC GUN EVIDENCE. NEW METHODS OF BOMB SEARCH AND DISPOSAL HAVE BEEN DEVELOPED ALONG WITH TECHNICAL PHOTOGRAPHY TECHNIQUES. OTHER INVENTIONS WITH INVESTIGATIVE APPLICATIONS INCLUDE NEW MEDICAL ANALYSES AND SPECIAL METHODS OF DOCUMENT IDENTIFICATION THROUGH HANDWRITING AND TYPEWRITER IDENTIFICATION. THESE NEW TECHNIQUES HAVE MADE THE POLICE FUNCTION MORE EFFICIENT BY PROVIDING HIGHLY SOPHISTICATED EQUIPMENT WHICH ENABLES INVESTIGATORS TO MAKE BETTER USE OF AVAILABLE EVIDENCE. (BAC)
