This police officer training guide, designed for field training officers (FTO's) contains lists of basic tasks and information which agencies may expect their officers to know or perform. Alongside the item identifying the task are columns to be initialed by the FTO after the item has been explained, after it has been demonstrated, and again after the FTO is certain that it is understood by the officer.
Abstract
The basic tasks listed are divided into the following categories: professional orientation, communications, force and weaponry, patrol procedures, traffic, criminal investigations, and custody. Within each category are further subdivisions. For instance, in the communications category, the officer is expected to understand such basic tasks as interpersonal communications, notetaking, report writing mechanics, and use of the telephone. Sample evaluation forms, such as field instructor's rating guide, are appended along with an index.
