This book is a listing of the rules that govern the procedure in all criminal proceedings in the United States district courts.
Abstract
The handbook on criminal procedure provides rules governing preliminary hearings, indictment and information, arraignment and preparation for trial, venue, trial judgement, appeal, and supplementary and special proceedings. General provisions are also provided that cover such areas as presence of the defendant, right to counsel, motions, dismissal, service, and error. The provisions of Title 18 crimes and criminal procedure are provided. These provisions define the elements of the different crimes and the terms of art. Title 18 also defines the same subjects of procedure as provided in the rules. Code sections on prisons and prisoners, correction of youthful offenders, and immunity of witnesses are included. Finally, Chapter 13 of Title 21 of the United States Code dealing with drug abuse prevention and control is also contained in the handbook. The subjects covered by Chapter 13 include control and enforcement; authority to control; registration of manufacturers, distributors, and dispensers of controlled substances; and sections defining offenses and penalties under the Chapter. Index, amendments, and repealed sections are included.
