THIS TRAINING KEY DELINEATES THE STEPS AN OFFICER SHOULD TAKE TO DETERMINE ALL OF THE FACTS RELATING TO A FATAL VEHICLE ACCIDENT IN THE COURSE OF HIS INVESTIGATION.
Abstract
THE THOROUGH INVESTIGATION OF A FATAL VEHICLE ACCIDENT REQUIRES THAT THE POLICE OFFICER RECONSTRUCT THE EVENT BY ANALYZING THE ACCOUNTS OF WITNESSES, PHYSICAL EVIDENCE, AND ROAD AND WEATHER CONDITIONS. THE DRIVER'S BACKGROUND, INCLUDING MEDICAL AND SOCIAL HISTORIES, MAY HAVE TO BE CHECKED FOR INFORMATION THAT BEARS ON THE CASE. IN ADDITION, THE POLICE OFFICER PROVIDES THE MEDICAL EXAMINER WITH LINES OF INQUIRY WHEN AN AUTOPSY IS PERFORMED.
