Abstract
The mediator is not a referee, but must be in control of the process throughout by assessing all components of the situation be they legal or emotional. The case presented takes the reader through the background information, initial client contact, seven mediation sessions and a 1-year update. The author demonstrates how, if used effectively, mediation can be a means to avoid the typical pitfalls of divorce and achieve an amicable settlement.
