THIS ARTICLE BRIEFLY DESCRIBES THE TRAINING PROGRAM AND THE RESULTS OF THIS TRAINING ON THE PARTICIPATING POLICE OFFICERS AND THE FAMILIES THEY DEALT WITH AS PART OF A FAMILY CRISIS UNIT IN COLUMBUS (OH).
Abstract
THE TRAINING WAS PROVIDED BY THE FAMILY CRISIS UNIT OF THE COLUMBUS AREA COMMUNITY MENTAL HEALTH CENTER. THE TECHNIQUES STRESSED IN THE TRAINING WERE MEDIATION AND REFERRAL. POLICE OFFICERS, ALTHOUGH SCEPTICAL OF THIS TRAINING PRIOR TO THE PROGRAM'S INCEPTION, WERE HIGHLY SATISFIED WITH IT AND THEY FELT THAT IT AIDED THEM IN THEIR JOBS.
