These eight articles from "Alcohol Health and Research World" in 1981, 1982, and 1983 present results of survey research on the prevalence of alcohol and other drug use among high school students in the United States, their drinking contexts, the influence of parents, and drinking and driving, in general.
Abstract
Findings show that most senior high school students have used alcohol by the time they reach the 10th grade, and the frequency of alcohol use increases significantly between the 10th and 12th grades. The degree of alcohol use is closely connected with the extent of experience with other psychoactive drugs. In addition, more drinking occurs at teenage parties unsupervised by adults than at those with adult supervision. Students' drinking levels are also associated with their perceptions of their parents' drinking behavior. Furthermore, one-fourth of senior high school students are at risk for an alcohol-related traffic accident during a year. Tables and reference lists.
