RESULTS OF A SURVEY OF 97 POLICE DEPARTMENTS TO DETERMINE EXTENT OF THEIR PLANNING INDICATES THAT 81 ARE ENGAGED IN SHORT-RANGE PLANNING, 3 IN LONG-RANGE PLANNING, 11 ARE NOT PLANNING, AND 5 DID NOT COMPLETE THE FORM.
Abstract
ON THE BASIS OF THE RESULTS OF THE SURVEY, IT IS SUGGESTED THAT THERE NEEDS TO BE CONSIDERABLE EFFORT IN EDUCATING POLICE ADMINISTRATORS, AND PROBABLY THE BULK OF THEIR PLANNERS, AS TO WHAT LONG-RANGE PLANNING IS, HOW IT CAN HELP THEM, AND HOW TO DO IT. IT IS FURTHER RECOMMENDED THAT THERE IS NEED FOR MUCH MORE INFORMATION ON THE PLANNING THAT OCCURS IN LAW ENFORCEMENT. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT MODIFIED)
