The nominal group technique was used to research the issue of how community involvement by Los Angeles police officers could be expanded in the future.
Abstract
The research scenario involved corruption of public officials in Los Angeles and expanded community involvement by the police in crime prevention. It was determined that the following steps should be taken to enhance the police role in the community: increase emphasis on community-based patrols, provide low-cost housing loans to allow police officers to reside in the city, subsidize child care, change pay schedules to reward police officers who excel in community efforts, obtain community feedback on police performance at all levels and hold police commanders accountable for improvement, and use computer technology to improve police operations. 17 endnotes
