FINDINGS OF ON-SITE INSPECTION AND DOCUMENT ANALYSIS TO EVALUATE PROJECT EFFECTIVENESS AND POTENTIAL.
Abstract
TWO OUTSIDE EVALUATORS WERE ASKED BY LEAA TO FURNISH VALIDATION OF THE SUCCESSES OF THE ROBBERY CONTROL PROJECT (RCP). ASSESSMENT CRITERIA WERE INNOVATIVENESS, REPLICABILITY, MEASURABILITY AND ACCESSIBILITY. EVALUATION METHODS USED WERE CONTENT ANALYSIS, OPEN-ENDED INTERVIEWS, AND STATISTICAL ANALYSIS. THE EVALUATORS' CONCLUSIONS ON THE SUCCESS OF THE CRIME-SPECIFIC PROJECT WERE POSITIVE IN LIGHT OF THE FOUR CRITERIA. THE PROJECT WAS ASSESSED AS CONTAINING EXPERIMENTAL AND CHALLENGING ORGANIZATIONAL CONCEPTS AND POLICE PRACTICES. IT WAS CONSIDERED APPLICABLE TO BOTH OTHER DEPARTMENTS AND CRIMES, AS BEING BOTH MEASURABLE AND SUCCESSFUL IN TERMS OF ITS EXPRESSED GOALS, AND AS QUICKLY AND EASILY ACCESSIBLE TO EVALUATORS, RESEARCHERS, AND CRIMINAL JUSTICE PERSONNEL.
