SURVEY OF THE GOALS AND SUCCESSES ACHIEVED BY THE EXCEL PROGRAM, THE MAIN OBJECTIVE OF WHICH WAS TO FIND MEANINGFUL EMPLOYMENT FOR EX-OFFENDERS.
Abstract
FIVE GOALS WERE IDENTIFIED - TO DEVELOP CAPABILITIES OF PROBATION-PAROLE AND CORRECTIONAL OFFICERS IN AIDING OFFENDERS TO FIND AND KEEP JOBS UPON RELEASE, TO ENLIST THE SUPPORT OF EMPLOYERS IN HIRING EX-OFFENDERS, TO BUILD AN EFFECTIVE WORKING RELATIONSHIP WITH TRADE AND CIVIC ORGANIZATIONS, TO INTEGRATE THE OVERALL EX-OFFENDER TRAINING AND EMPLOYMENT PROGRAM WITH THE LABOR DEPARTMENT JOBS-70 PROGRAM, AND TO DEVELOP AN EFFECTIVE DELIVERY SYSTEM OF EX-OFFENDERS TO JOB PLACEMENTS. THE PROGRESS IN EACH AREA IS DESCRIBED AS OF JULY 31, 1972. APPENDICES INCLUDE A LISTING OF THOSE EX-OFFENDERS PLACED IN JOBS AND THE VARIOUS COMPANIES WHICH WILL HIRE THEM. (AUTHOR MODIFIED)
