Abstract

This recording, part of the Comprehensive Opioid Abuse Program (or “COAP”) podcast series, provides a brief history and current innovations across Prescription Drug Monitoring Programs (PDMPs) from some of the key people who helped to enhance these state programs in efforts to address the opioid abuse, misuse, and overdose crisis in the United States. The podcast features Harold "Hal" Rogers from Kentucky's 5th Congressional District; James "Jim" Giglio, former Director of New York State's Bureau of Narcotics Enforcement; Meghna Patel, Deputy Secretary for Health Innovation at the Pennsylvania Department of Health; David "Dave" Hopkins, former program manager of the Kentucky All Schedule Prescription Electronic Reporting System (KASPER) at the Office of Inspector General; Chris Baumgartner, Drug Systems Director, Washington State Department of Health; and Michelle Ricco Jonas, PDMP Director, New Hampshire Board of Pharmacy. The podcast discusses the evolution of Prescription Drug Monitoring Programs (PDMP) since their inception and current innovations being implemented by these programs.
