An intensive treatment approach for 85 shock probationers was found to be effective when compared with a control group of 179 similar offenders.
Abstract
The four-week Personal Planning Project (PPP) program requires probationers to attend training Monday through Friday which includes educational, employment and counseling services, basic life skills modules, and Reality Therapy. The outcome variables reveal that the PPP group had fewer arrests, convictions, and other violations than the control group. Self-concept, as measured by the Tennessee Self-Concept Inventory before and after the program, resulted in significant differences. 8 figures, 7 tables, 2 references.
