THIS EVALUATION OF NEBRASKA'S VOLUNTEERS IN PROBATION (VIP) PROJECT ATTEMPTS TO DETERMINE THE SUCCESS OF THE PROJECT IN PROVIDING TRAINED VOLUNTEERS ON A ONE-TO-ONE BASIS WITH JUVENILE PROBATIONERS.
Abstract
THE OBJECTIVE OF THE PROJECT IS TO PREVENT JUVENILE PROBATIONERS FROM HAVING FURTHER CONTACT WITH THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM BY MEANS OF INTENSIVE COUNSELING AND GUIDANCE. ALTHOUGH THE PROJECT GOALS CALLED FOR 450 VOLUNTEERS TO BE MATCHED AFTER THE FIRST 12 MONTHS, ONLY 112 WERE MATCHED. AND DESPITE A PROJECT GOAL OF PREVENTING 90 PERCENT OF THE CLIENTS FROM BEING ADJUDICATED FOR CONDUCT DURING THEIR PARTICIPATION, ONLY 83 PERCENT WERE NOT ADJUDICATED. THE STATEWIDE AVERAGE BEFORE THE VIP PROJECT WAS 79 PERCENT NOT ADJUDICATED. CRITERIA OTHER THAN GOAL ACHIEVEMENT, SUCH CLIENTS' AND VOLUNTEERS' ASSESSMENTS, ARE ALSO INCLUDED....MSP
