THIS TRAINING KEY EXAMINES PROCEDURES FOR THE POLICE OFFICER'S ON-THE-SCENE EVALUATION OF POSSIBLE DANGER FOLLOWING AN ACCIDENT INVOLVING A TRUCK WHICH IS TRANSPORTING HAZARDOUS CHEMICALS.
Abstract
DISCUSSED ARE THE MAIN SOURCES OF INFORMATION AVAILABLE TO THE POLICE OFFICER AT THE ACCIDENT SCENE TO AID IN THE ASSESSMENT OF POTENTIAL HAZARD AND HOW TO UTILIZE THEM. THESE INCLUDE THE SHAPE OF THE TRUCK, PLACARDS ON THE TRUCK, SHIPPING PAPERS, LABELS ON CONTAINERS, CHEM-CARDS (EMERGENCY INFORMATION CARDS OFTEN CARRIED IN THE TRUCK), AND THE DRIVER HIMSELF.
