Directed to United States citizens who work or travel in other countries, this training videotape uses television quiz show, talk show, and cooking demonstration formats to present basic information on policies and procedures related to the emergency evacuation of United States citizens from foreign countries in cases of natural disasters, civil disturbances, and revolutions.
Abstract
The quiz show, "Travel or Consequences," displays three simulated contestants answering questions regarding policies, information sources, personnel, and administrative procedures for evacuations. Topics include the difference between an authorized and an ordered departure, the communication of information during a crisis, where to go for a safe haven, what happens to single parents, government allowances during an evacuation, and how host country nationals working for the United States Government or the private sector are handled. In the talk show, officials of the United States Department of State and a private corporation emphasize that no two situations are the same and that it is important for every individual and family to be prepared for an evacuation. The final segment, "Recipe for Success," is narrated by a woman who was evacuated twice. She lists the documents and clothing essential to carry during an evacuation.
