Abstract
For this fourth edition, several chapters were revised and extended. This edition of the Sourcebook has extended offense data beyond "street-level" crime to include offenses such as fraud, offenses against computer data and systems, money laundering, and corruption. More detailed information was collected for certain offenses, including assault, drug trafficking, sexual assault, and sexual abuse of minors. The chapter on prosecution has been expanded to contain information on restrictions imposed on the freedom of individuals under investigation, such as police custody, pretrial detention, bail, and electronic monitoring. The chapter on convictions contains more detailed information on both adults and juveniles involved with the criminal justice system, including new forms of noncustodial sanctions such as community service and persons held in pretrial detention. The final chapter presents data from the International Crime Victimization Surveys conducted between 1989 and 2005; and for the first time, information is provided on self-reported delinquency among juveniles (ages 13-16) collected in 2006 during the second international self-reported delinquency survey held in 17 European countries. Most of the data presented in the Sourcebook were obtained from the national correspondents of the reporting countries; however, in a few cases, this was not possible, so other data sources were used. Extensive tables, 31 references, and appended country-by-country offense definitions and population figures
