Abstract
This report, produced by the National Institute of Corrections (NIC) Information Center, provides a broad overview of selected and anticipated trends in programs and services offered by the NIC. The report contains synopses of articles, papers, reports, and other materials obtained from popular magazines, newspapers, Web sites, and corrections-specific publications. The first section of the report looks at international developments for 2012 and future trends for the economy, populations, and criminal justice. The second section of the report contains information on demographic and social trends, while the third section of the report provides a summary on employment changes and opportunities based on education, age, skills, and ethnicity of offenders. The fourth section of the report presents highlights of how technology is changing the social landscape and where it may be headed in the future. The fifth section of the report presents an overview of public opinion on crime and criminal justice policies. The sixth section of the report looks at the economy and government spending as the State level. The seventh section of the report discusses trends in criminal justice, while the eighth section of the report looks at corrections populations and trends. The final section of the report examines the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA). Each section contains highlights of the articles/reports as well as links to the documents.
