This report makes recommendations concerning measures (retrofit options) that can be taken to reduce energy consumption at the Olmstead County Jail in Olmstead, Minn. The potential cost savings associated with each option are also presented.
Abstract
The report suggests that the building temperature be lowered to 68 degrees Fahrenheit; recalibrating the thermostats can save approximately 9.1 percent of the energy required for heating. Outside air intake during the heating season should also be reduced, and incandescent lamps should be replaced with fluorescent lamps and fixtures in the chase and in the cell blocks and hallways. Room temperature should be lowered to 55 degrees Fahrenheit during unoccupied periods by installing automatic reset thermostats which control the reheat coils supplying each area. Other options involve shutting off hot water to the unit heater in the garage, and replacing existing standard fluorescent lamps with energy conserving lamps. Descriptions of energy saving devices are appended.
