HISTORY AND DESCRIPTION OF THESE PRIVATE, CITIZEN SUPPORTED AGENCIES WHICH PROVIDE A VARIETY OF SERVICES TO INMATES, EX-OFFENDERS, AND THEIR FAMILIES.
Abstract
CORRECTIONAL SERVICE AGENCIES ENGAGE IN A WIDE RANGE OF ACTIVITIES INCLUDING DIRECT PRE AND POST ADJUDICATION SERVICES (DIAGNOSTIC CLINICS, COUNSELING, PRISON VISITS), DIRECT RE-ENTRY SERVICES (LEGAL AID, CASEWORK, HALFWAY HOUSES), AND INDIRECT SERVICES (VOLUNTEER RECRUITMENT). THESE AGENCIES ARE ALSO INVOLVED IN PUBLIC INFORMATION AND EDUCATION ACTIVITIES AND ENCOURAGING PUBLIC INVOLVEMENT AND ACTION TO IMPROVE CORRECTIONAL RESOURCES, FACILITIES, AND PROGRAMS.
