THE AUTHOR MAINTAINS THAT THE OFFICER WHO ATTEMPTS TO SUCCEED AT THE SUPERVISORY LEVEL WITHOUT ACKNOWLEDGING THAT THE POSITION REQUIRES A DIFFERENT BEHAVIOR FROM THE LINE OFFICER IS SUBJECT TO MANY PROBLEMS OR 'HEADACHES'.
Abstract
THE EIGHT SUGGESTED REMEDIES ARE AS FOLLOWS; 1) BECOME KNOWLEDGEABLE ABOUT THE JOB; 2) TRY TO KNOW AND UNDERSTAND SUBORDINATES; 3) ALLOW SUBORDINATES TO DO THEIR JOB; 4) PROVIDE OPPORTUNITIES FOR SUBORDINATES TO LEARN; 5) BE A RESOURCE PERSON FOR SUBORDINATES; 6) COMPLIMENT SUBORDINATES; 7) DOCUMENT AND EVALUATE PERFORMANCE AS A POSITIVE APPROACH TO HELPING SUBORDINATES; AND 8) HELP SUBORDINATES ADVANCE.
