A SURVEY OF AVAILABLE LITERATURE IS CONDUCTED TO ACQUIRE INFORMATION ON POSSIBLE APPLICATIONS OF NEW TECHNOLOGICAL DEVELOPMENTS TO THE LAW ENFORCEMENT FIELD. POLICING, AND DISCUSSES PROJECT IMPLEMENTATION STRATEGY.
Abstract
SUGGESTIONS ARE PRESENTED TO STIMULATE POLICE ADMINISTRATORS IN THIS DEVELOPMENT AND METHODS OF IMPLEMENTING THE NEW TECHNOLOGY ARE EXPLORED. COMPUTERS TO POLICE MANAGEMENT. THE SECTION ON LEGISLATIVE BARRIERS TO GOOD POLICING TAKES INTO ACCOUNT ORGANIZATION, JURISDICTION, PERSONNEL (INCLUDING AUTHORIZED STRENGTH, MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS, AND RETIREMENT), FINANCING, AND COURT DECISIONS. THE FINAL SECTION SETS FORTH PAST AND PRESENT PRACTICES IN IMPLEMENTATION DESIGNED TO CORRECT DEFECTS IN POLICE ORGANIZATION AND MANAGEMENT, AND RECOMMENDS ADDITIONAL MODES OF ACTION THAT COULD BE UTILIZED.
