THIS VOLUME DISCUSSES STATE POLICE SYSTEMS IN GENERAL, THEN COMPARES MANAGEMENT AND ORGANIZATION STRUCTURES BETWEEN AGENCIES AS WELL AS PERSONNEL POLICIES.
Abstract
TOPICS INCLUDE THE HISTORY OF STATE POLICE AGENCIES, SOCIO-POLITICAL RELATIONSHIPS, TYPES OF STATE POLICE, PAY RATES AND BENEFITS, TRAINING, FINANCE, AND ORGANIZATION. A PROPOSED MODEL FOR STATE POLICE ORGANIZATION IS PRESENTED THAT DEALS WITH OVERHEAD CONTROL, INTERDEPARTMENTAL RELATIONSHIPS, SELECTION OF CHIEF DEPARTMENTAL EXECUTIVE, SELECTION OF POLICE CHIEF, REMOVAL FROM OFFICE, AND DEPARTMENTALIZATION. ORGANIZATION CHARTS FOR SEVERAL STATE POLICE AGENCIES ARE PRESENTED. INCLUDED IN THE ANALYSIS ARE NOT ONLY STATE POLICE AGENCIES PER SE, BUT FISH AND GAME COMMISSIONS, ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGE COMMISSIONS, AND OTHER STATE LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES.
