SUMMARIZED PAST EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS, AND CURRENT EDUCATIONAL NEEDS OF INMATES IN THREE VERMONT CORRECTIONAL INSTITUTIONS, BASED ON INMATE INTERVIEWS AND DISCUSSIONS WITH ADVISORS AND EDUCATIONAL DIRECTOR.
Abstract
GREATEST NEED WAS EXPRESSED FOR A TRAINING PROGRAM IN AUTO MECHANIC SKILLS, FOLLOWED BY A WIDE VARIETY OF VOCATIONAL AND ACADEMIC PROGRAM NEEDS. THE REPORT ALSO COVERS THE INMATES' EXPRESSED SHORT- AND LONG-RANGE PERSONAL GOALS, THEIR GENERAL NEEDS FOR EDUCATION IMPROVEMENTS, AND SUGGESTS STEPS FOR CREATING INDIVIDUALIZED EDUCATION AND TRAINING PROGRAMS FOR INMATES THAT WOULD HAVE BOTH SUBSTANCE AND CONTINUITY.
