These two manuals presents the student texts and teacher's guidelines for use in courses or programs designed to teach children and youth skills, attitudes, and behavior patterns that will enable them to have effective relationships with family members, friends, and others both now and in adulthood. The Curricula is designed to take a proactive approach to preventing juvenile delinquency, enabling youths to lead lives free of drugs and violence.
Abstract
One manual is intended for pre-teens and the other for teenagers. The materials aim to help children and youth develop self-esteem; effective communication skills; strong coping skills for handling stress, anger, and conflict; realistic expectations of marriage, parenting, and family life; and a deeper understanding of the commitment necessary to achieve and maintain strong and lasting relationships. Specific chapters focus on self-esteem, communication, anger and conflict, sex roles, friendship, affection and touching, love, jealousy, expectations, dating, single life, marriage, decisions regarding becoming parents, sexuality, alternative lifestyles, and other topics. The manual presents detailed guidelines and suggestions for teacher and students, learning objectives for each chapter, and student activities on each topic.
