This manual provides guidelines for use by Drug Action Teams and local partnerships established under Drug Action Teams in Great Britain in connecting offenders in Great Britain who are using illegal drugs with appropriate services to help them reduce their drug abuse and thus to reduce their criminal activity.
Abstract
The manual explains the importance of criminal justice intervention programs to the objectives of the government’s anti-drug strategy. The text recognizes that collaborations to target and reduce drug-related crime is a government priority for police for 1999-2000, notes that probation services are encouraged to spend partnership funds on well-founded interventions, and takes account of the Prison Service’s framework for drug interventions for inmates. Nine Home Office Drugs Prevention Advisory Service teams will be ready to advise Drug Action Teams on the development of criminal justice intervention programs based on the manual. The crucial points of intervention relate to arrest, the pre-sentence phase, community sentences, custodial sentences, and the post-sentence phase. Intervention models include information only, proactive models, and incentive or coercive models. Figures and appended checklist and assessment form
