In the first two quarters of 1992, the Drug Use Forecasting (DUF) Program collected data from male booked arrestees in 24 sites; in 21 sites, data were also collected from female booked arrestees and from juvenile male booked arrestees in 12 sites.
Abstract
During the DUF interview, arrestees were asked if they felt they could benefit from alcohol or drug treatment. The percentage of male arrestees answering affirmatively ranged from 12 percent in Phoenix to 38 percent in Philadelphia. The range for female arrestees wanting treatment was 14 to 59 percent, and for male juveniles, 1 to 16 percent. The subjects were asked for which drugs they required treatment; at all but one site, the majority reported a need for cocaine treatment. Juvenile detainees were more likely to report a need for marijuana treatment than for either cocaine or heroin. Persons reporting a need for treatment were more likely to test positively in urinalysis than persons not reporting such a need. Statistics gathered from each site were tabulated separately in this report.
