Data are presented for drug offenses, seizures, and arrests in Idaho for 1998-2006.
Abstract
Except for slight decreases in 2001 and 2002, drug offenses in Idaho have increased every year since 1998. The percentage of cases that involved an offender suspected of being under the influence of drugs at the time of a crime also increased between 1998 and 2006. Approximately 94 percent of drug offenses involved a drug seizure. In 65 percent of drug seizures, the seized drug was marijuana. Marijuana was the least likely drug to be linked with drug-sale offenses but the most common drug linked with drug offenses, violent crimes, and property offenses. Methamphetamine seizures reached their peak in 2005. The majority of offenses occurred on a roadway, and approximately 90 percent of drug offenses resulted in an arrest. The percentage of arrests for drugs/drug equipment, driving under the influence, and drunkenness increased between 1998 and 2006. Arrests related to drug use and drug seizures increased from 11.4 percent of all arrests in 1998 to 14.0 percent in 2006. The percentage of arrestees who were juveniles decreased between 1998 and 2006, and the percentage of arrestees involved in marijuana seizures declined for older offenders until the age of 45. Arrestees involved in drug possession cases were likely to be male, White, non-Hispanic, and an average of 27 years old. A county-to-county comparison of data is provided. 8 charts and 9 tables
