NARRATIVE AND STATISTICAL DATA RESULTING FROM A DETAILED ANALYSIS OF 9,587 DANGEROUS DRUG OFFENSE CASES HANDLED DURING THE FIVE-YEAR PERIOD 1967-1971.
Abstract
THE STUDY INVESTIGATED THE POSSIBILITY THAT CERTAIN SEGMENTS OF THE GENERAL POPULATION IN NASSAU COUNTY ARE MORE VULNERABLE TO DRUG ABUSE BEHAVIOR. ALSO, THE DRUG PROBLEM WAS EXPLORED AT THE VILLAGE AND COMMUNITY LEVEL IN AN ATTEMPT TO FIND OUT HOW COMMUNITIES DIFFER IN THE TYPE AND SCOPE OF THEIR DRUG PROBLEMS. THE EVIDENCE GATHERED OFFERS STRONG SUPPORT FOR THE CONCLUSION THAT THERE IS A STRONG RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN ILLICIT DRUG ABUSE AND SOCIOECONOMIC STATUS. THE REPORT PRESENTS A SERIES OF DRUG OFFENDER PROFILES FOR A BROAD RANGE OF DEMOGRAPHIC, LEGAL, AND SOCIAL CHARACTERISTICS. NUMEROUS TABLES AND MAPS ILLUSTRATE THE DOCUMENT.
