STUDY OF THE DEALERS WHO SUPPLY DRUGS, BASED ON INTERVIEWS WITH 2,000 INDIVIDUALS CONNECTED WITH THE DRUG SUBCULTURE.
Abstract
ABUSE CAN ONLY EXIST WHERE THERE IS AN AVAILABLE SOURCE FOR ILLICIT DRUGS. FINDINGS SUGGEST THAT DEALERS ARE NOT PERCEPTIBLY DIFFERENT FROM THE USERS TO WHOM THEY SELL. HOWEVER, DEALERS DID DIFFER AMONG THEMSELVES IN TERMS OF MOTIVATION, REACTION TO RISK AND COMMITMENT TO DEALING AS A CRIMINAL CAREER. FOR EXAMPLE, STUDENTS WHO SOLD DRUGS IN SCHOOLS AND COLLEGES SEEM TO BE ONLY TRANSITIONALLY INVOLVED IN THAT THEY EVENTUALLY MOVE INTO CONVENTIONAL CAREERS. THIS VOLUME COMPILES DATA ON THE CHARACTERISTICS OF PEOPLE WHO MAKE THEIR LIVING, IN WHOLE OR IN PART, BY SUPPLYING DRUGS
