THIS ARTICLE DISCUSSES WAYS TO REDUCE DAMAGE TO DOORWAYS AND DOOR HARDWARE THAT OCCURS THROUGH VANDALISM AND NORMAL USAGE.
Abstract
EXPOSED DOOR HARDWARE IS CONSIDERED A PRIME TARGET FOR VANDALISM. RECENT DEVELOPMENTS MAKING DOOR HARDWARE VANDAL-RESISTANT, DURABLE, AND EASY TO MAINTAIN ARE DISCUSSED. NEW DEVELOPMENTS INCLUDE SECURITY LOCKS, ANCHOR HINGES WITH REMOVEABLE PINS, AND SPANNER-HEAD SCREWS THAT CANNOT BE REMOVED WITHOUT SPECIAL TOOLS. ALSO, THE INCREASING TREND IS CONSIDERED TO BE TOWARD CONCEALED HARDWARE. THOUGH SLIGHTLY MORE EXPENSIVE INITIALLY, THE AUTHOR POINTS OUT THAT IN THE LONG RUN THESE INNOVATIONS ARE MORE ECONOMICAL, BECAUSE THEY PROVIDE LONGER SERVICE AND LESS MAINTENANCE....RCB
