Abstract
Curriculum components outlined in the first volume include domestic violence and the importance of effective law enforcement intervention, felony and misdemeanor charges that frequently arise in domestic violence cases, the dynamics and effects of domestic violence in terms of both offenders and victims, techniques for conducting victim interviews, arrest and reporting procedures, protective court orders, victim safety and followup, and the effect of domestic violence on children. Reference materials included in this volume focus on the California Penal Code, national legislation on domestic violence, State law enforcement guidelines on domestic violence, the Commission on State Mandates, lawsuits and liability, investigation and report writing, protective court orders, commonly asked questions about domestic violence, batterer re-education programs, recent research findings and recommendations on law enforcement's response to domestic violence, victim assistance, training resources, child abuse, and the San Francisco Family Violence Project. 52 references.
