Date Published
1990
Length
30 pages

This report was prepared pursuant to United Nations resolutions dedicated to preventing domestic violence.
Abstract
Topics include the nature and extent of domestic violence; research needs; the dynamics of domestic violence; criminal justice system response; treatment modalities; training; public education; and suggestions for international, national, and local strategies. The problem of domestic violence is age-old, but has only recently received major policy attention. Early concern focused on child abuse, then wife battering, and lately has extended to abuse of elderly and disabled persons. Thus far, violence between siblings, against parents, and among partners in unconventional domestic relationships has not received much attention. 39 endnotes
