This report presents the recommendations developed by participants at a national meeting designed to advance the state-of- the-art of domestic violence fatality reviews, a tool by which courts and related agencies can improve their responses to cases involving domestic assault.
Abstract
The meeting was organized and sponsored by the Family Violence Department of the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges and the Florida Governor's Task Force on Domestic and Sexual Violence of the Florida Department of Community Affairs. Participants heard briefings, participated in simulated fatality review teams, and worked concurrently on four reality-based cases. Their recommendations focused on the purpose and goals of a fatality review, team structure and organization, the scope of the review, information gathering, the participation of family members, processes to be used, and improvements in domestic violence interventions.
