BULLETIN ANNOUNCES AVAILABILITY OF FEDERAL FUNDS FOR PROGRAMS TO DIVERT JUVENILE OFFENDERS FROM THE JUVENILE JUSTICE SYSTEM, AND GIVES SUGGESTIONS ON WHAT SUCH PROGRAMS COULD INCLUDE.
Abstract
GRANTS ALLOCATED UNDER THIS PROJECT SAYS WOULD AIM FOR A NUMBER OF GOALS, REDIRECTION AND EXPANSION OF EXISTING COMMUNITY RESOURCES TO STEM JUVENILE DELINQUENCY AMONG THEM. PROGRAMS WOULD TARGET YOUTHS WHO WOULD OTHERWISE BE ADJUDGED DELINQUENT. GRANTS WOULD BE ALLOCATED FOR A THREE YEAR PERIOD, WITH REVIEW AFTER THE FIRST YEAR A FACTOR IN DETERMINING THEIR CONTINUATION. PUBLIC AND NONPROFIT ORGANIZATIONS ARE ELIGIBLE TO APPLY. DISCUSSION IS INCLUDED IN THE BULLETIN ON WHAT IS DIVERSION, WHO SHOULD BE DIVERTED, AND ON SOCIAL REACTION THEORIES. SUPPLEMENTS INCLUDE PROGRAM RATIONALE, EXAMPLES OF DIVERSION PROGRAMS, AND A FLOW CHART OF THE JUVENILE JUSTICE SYSTEM. REFERENCES FOR FURTHER READING ARE APPENDED, AS WELL AS SAMPLE APPLICATION FORMS.
