BACKGROUND AND ORGANIZATION OF THE POLICE-COMMUNITY ALERT COUNCIL, IN WASHINGTON, DC, IS DESCRIBED.
Abstract
BECAUSE OF DECLINING POLICE COMMUNITY RELATIONS, AND THE OMINOUS ATMOSPHERE CREATED BY IT, THE URBAN ACTION LEAGUE HELPED ORGANIZE THIS COUNCIL. THE PROJECT IS OUTLINED AND OPERATIONAL PROCEDURES PRESENTED. SOME SERVICES ATTEMPTED WERE LEGAL SERVICES, BAIL BOND AND JOB OUT REACH. WHILE SUCCESS IS REPORTED IN SOME AREAS, THE LACK OF AVAILABLE JOBS MADE THE JOB PROGRAM FAIL. COMMENTS AND RECOMMENDATIONS ARE LISTED WITH BRIEF DESCRIPTIONS, BY PRECINCT, OF THE EIGHT COUNCILS.
