A total of 102,275 young people in Florida were charged with delinquency offenses during fiscal year 1994-1995.
Abstract
Between fiscal years 1990-1991 and 1994-1995, the number of youth charged with violent felony offenses (murder, attempted murder, manslaughter, felony sex offenses, robbery, aggravated assault, and resisting arrest with violence) increased from 7 per 1,000 to 8.54 per 1,000. There was a 33-percent increase in the number of youth charged with violent offenses, from 9,107 to 12,115. While the number of youth charged with violent felonies increased by 33 percent between 1990 and 1995, the number of violent offense cases for juveniles increased by 29 percent. Nearly 12 percent of youth charged with delinquency offenses during 1994-1995 were charged with violent felony offenses. The number of white males charged with delinquency offenses increased by 23 percent between 1990 and 1995. During the same period, the number of black males charged with delinquency offenses increased by 26 percent, the number of white females charged with delinquency offenses increased by 54 percent, and the number of black females charged with delinquency offenses increased by 55 percent.
