Even though in recent years the South and Southwest have experienced a rise in industrialization and labor organization, the rate of work stoppages, dispute mediation cases, and closed arbitration awards has lagged behind other regions of the United States.
Abstract
Regional differences are evident in the conduct of dispute parties in arbitration cases. These differences include a lower level or lack of arbitration experience, an adherence to a genteel style of behavior, and the existence of employer-employee social relationships. The author's experiences as an arbitrator highlight his views on these regional differences. Seven footnotes are given.
