This directory presents detailed information on 141 dispute resolution programs across the Nation that handle such everyday problems as small money claims, family disputes, neighborhood disagreements, and landlord-tenant arguments.
Abstract
It also contains profiles of several programs which deal with such major controversies as environmental problems, custody and divorce, and other serious interpersonal problems. To compile the directory, the Special Committee on Resolution of Minor Disputes of the American Bar Association conducted surveys and telephone interviews. Programs are listed alphabetically by State, and programs in 35 States and Canada are included. For each program, a brief outline presents statistical information on types of cases handled, case dispositions, and referral sources. In addition descriptions of staff and training, program procedures, and public relations activities are provided. Also given are the name and telephone number of each program director, the community served, the annual budget, funding sources, annual caseload, and startup date. Three appendixes contain names of 20 organizations which are planning dispute resolution programs, 100 resource agencies in the dispute resolution field, and a quick reference index.
