THE PSYCHOLOGICAL PROBLEMS CONFRONTED BY THE CHILDREN OF INCARCERATED OFFENDERS ARE DISCUSSED, AS ARE WAYS IN WHICH SOCIAL WORKERS CAN HELP TO DEAL WITH THOSE PROBLEMS.
Abstract
SEPARATION FROM A PARENT, THE SOCIAL STIGMA INVOLVED, AND CONCERN FOR THE PARENT'S WELFARE CAN THREATEN THE CHILD'S EMOTIONAL STABILITY AND FAMILY RELATIONSHIPS. THE PRISON WELFARE OFFICER CAN HELP, OFTEN BY ARRANGING FOR THE CHILD TO VISIT THE PRISON AND PARENT. SEVERAL CASE STUDIES OF SUCH SITUATIONS WHICH HAVE OCCURRED IN ENGLAND ARE DESCRIBED.
