INTENDED FOR CORRECTIONAL PERSONNEL, THIS BOOKLET ATTEMPTS TO IMPROVE SENSITIVITY TO CULTURAL DIFFERENCES BY PROVIDING DESCRIPTIONS OF MINORITY CHARACTERISTICS AS SEEN BY THEIR OWN MEMBERS AND THOSE WHO WORK WITH THEM.
Abstract
THE GROUPS PRESENTED ARE: MEXICAN-AMERICANS AND OTHER SPANISH-SPEAKING PEOPLE OF THE SOUTHWEST; AMERICAN INDIANS; AMERICAN NEGROES; PUERTO RICANS; AND JAPANESE AMERICANS. SELECTION WAS BASED ON THE FACT THAT MOST OF THESE GROUPS ARE OVERREPRESENTED IN THE CORRECTIONAL POPULATION. THE IMPLICATIONS OF THE CHARACTERISTICS OF THESE GROUPS ARE DISCUSSED FOR CORRECTIONAL PERSONNEL AND PROGRAMS. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT MODIFIED)
