THIS PAPER DESCRIBES A TYPE OF CONTINUED TRAINING INTENDED FOR THE PROFESSIONAL IMPROVEMENT OF SOCIAL WORKERS WORKING IN FRENCH 'APPROVED' OR TRAINING SCHOOLS FOR ADOLESCENTS.
Abstract
GROUPS OF TWELVE TO FOURTEEN PARTICIPANTS ARE TRAINED IN ONE YEAR CYCLES OF TEN MONTHLY SESSIONS, EACH LASTING TWO DAYS. THE OVERALL OBJECTIVE IS TO BRING THE PARTICIPANTS TO A BETTER UNDERSTANDING OF THEIR OWN PERSONAL MODE OF FUNCTIONING AND TO IMPROVE THIS FUNCTIONING IN ORDER TO ENABLE THEM TO PROMOTE OPERATIONAL CHANGES IN EDUCATIONAL PRACTICE WITHIN THE INSTITUTES FOR REEDUCATION. AT A THEORETICAL LEVEL, THIS TRAINING IS BASED ON THE THEORY OF SYSTEMS AND COMMUNICATIONS DEVELOPED BY THE AMERICAN SCHOOL OF PALO ALTO, AS WELL AS VARIOUS CURRENTS OF THINKING DERIVED FROM IT (FAMILY THERAPY, IN PARTICULAR) AND ALSO ON THE TRANSACTIONAL ANALYSIS OF ERIC BERNE. AT A PRACTICAL LEVEL, THE TRAINING METHODS USED CONSIST, FIRST OF ALL, OF ROLE PLAYING BASED ON FREQUENT PROFESSIONAL SITUATIONS. PARTICIPANTS ARE NEXT REQUIRED TO SUGGEST TOPICS FOR THE EXERCISES. STRUCTURED COLLECTIVE SUPERVISION ON PROFESSIONAL MATERIAL RECORDED IN A REAL WORK SITUATION MAKES UP THE LAST STAGE OF THE TRAINING. THE SYSTEMATIC USE OF VIDEO-RECORDING FACILITATES ANALYSIS THROUGH THE CONTRIBUTION OF AUTOSCOPIC FEEDBACK. THE MODEL PRESENTED CONSTITUTES ONLY A STAGE IN THE PROCESS OF THIS TYPE OF TRAINING WHICH EVOLVES WITH TIME AS A FUNCTION OF THE NEEDS OF SOCIAL WORKERS AND OF THE INSTITUTIONS THEMSELVES. AS A FUNCTION OF THESE NEEDS, ONE OF SEVERAL ASPECTS OF SOCIAL WORK MAY BE STRESSED MORE PARTICULARLY - WORK WITHIN AN INSTITUTIONAL TEAM, WORK WITH GROUPS OF ADOLESCENTS, WORK WITH THE FAMILIES.
