Abstract
THE PRESENT STATE OF CRIMINOLOGY AND THE SOCIOLOGY OF DEVIANCE IN BRITAIN IS FIRST DISCUSSED. LABELLING THEORY, AND THE VALUE OF THE 'INTERACTIONIST' APPROACH WHICH STUDIES BOTH THE ACCUSERS AND THE ACCUSED IN INCIDENTS OF DEVIANCE ARE ALSO CONSIDERED. OTHER TOPICS EXAMINED IN VARIOUS SELECTIONS INCLUDE THE SOCIOLOGY OF CRIME AND THE EMERGENCE OF CRIMINAL LAWS, PROBLEMS IN THE COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS OF DEVIANCE, AND PHENOMENOLOGY, SOCIOLOGY, AND THE STUDY OF DEVIANCE. AN ACCOUNT OF HOW GROUPS MAY CREATE THEIR OWN SYSTEM OF MORALITY AND SOCIAL CONTROL TO GOVERN THEIR DEVIANT ACTIVITY IS INCLUDED.
