THEORY OF PERSONAL-SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT AND ADAPTATION BASED UPON STUDY OF SEVERAL HUNDRED DELINQUENT YOUTHS IN A STATE-OPERATED, COMMUNITY-BASED TREATMENT PROGRAM.
Abstract
A CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORK OF SOCIO-PSYCHOLOGICAL DEVELOPMENT IS CONSTRUCTED, BASED ON THE OBSERVATION OF PATTERNS OF RESPONSE-ADAPTATION SEQUENCES ASSOCIATED WITH MAJOR CHOICES AND DEVELOPMENTAL CHALLENGES FACED BY THE YOUTHS UNDER STUDY. THIS REPORT COVERS ROUGHLY THE AGES OF FIVE TO TEN YEARS, WHICH ARE DESIGNATED AS ERA I (CHILDHOOD). ERA II (SOCIALIZED RELATIONSHIPS) AND ERA III (ROLE ESTABLISHMENT-COMMITMENT) ARE TO BE COVERED IN SUBSEQUENT REPORTS. AN OVERVIEW OF TEMPORAL RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN LEVELS OF INTERPERSONAL MATURITY AND STAGES OF ERAS I AND II IS PROVIDED IN AN APPENDIX.
