TWO ALTERNATIVE APPROACHES TO A SYSTEM TO PROVIDE CITIZENS WITH EARLY ASSISTANCE IN THE EVENT OF ATTACKS ON THEIR PERSONS ARE DESCRIBED.
Abstract
A CITIZEN ACTIVATES THE SYSTEM BY USING A MINIATURE PERSONAL ACTUATOR. THE SYSTEM RESPONDS BY DISPLAYING DATA ABOUT THE USER AND HIS LOCATION AT THE LOCAL POLICE STATION. THE FIRST, DEVELOPED BY COMPU-GUARD, IS A TIME DOMAIN MULTIPLEX SYSTEM. THE SECOND, DEVELOPED BY AMERICAN ELECTRONIC LABORATORIES, INC., IS A FREQUENCY DOMAIN MULTIPLEX SYSTEM. A DETAILED EVALUATION OF EACH SYSTEM, RESULTS OF HARDWARE TESTING AND SYSTEM DEMONSTRATION ARE COVERED. IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE TIME DOMAIN APPROACH HAS INHERENT HIGH TECHNICAL RISKS AND THAT THE EXISTING HARDWARE IS INADEQUATE FOR THE DESIGN ENVIRONMENT. THE FREQUENCY DOMAIN APPROACH AVOIDS MOST OF THE TECHNICAL RISKS AND UTILIZES HARDWARE WHICH IS READILY AVAILABLE. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT)
