These eight papers examine ways to expand the use of family mediation, the role of mediation in disputes about child support and property settlement, mediation techniques during a crisis, and the experiences of foreign nations.
Abstract
An analysis of why many conflicts are not mediated suggests two strategies to increase the use of mediation. Additional papers discuss the use of divorce mediation in family service agencies and the development of a speaker's bureau to market mediation. Further discussions recommend the mediation of child support disputes, based on the author's experience as a hearing examiner, and present procedures to guide the mediator during a crisis in the mediation process. Additional discussions consider cross-cultural training with mediators in the Philippines; mediation approaches in the People's Republic of China; and the use of divorce mediation by family courts in Hawaii, Australia, New Zealand, and Canada. Figures, tables, chapter reference lists, appended research report, and index.
