EXAMINATION OF THE PRINCIPLES OF ADULT LEARNING AND OF CURRICULUM, RESOURCE AND METHODOLOGY CONSIDERATIONS WITH RESPECT TO THE CANADIAN PRISON SYSTEM.
Abstract
THIS STUDY SUGGESTS THE GENERAL SHAPE OF CURRICULA, NOTES THE ABUNDANT RESOURCES WITHIN THE COMMUNITY AVAILABLE FOR ITS IMPLEMENTATION, AND EXPLORES THE ORGANIZATION OF THE EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM. THE AUTHOR CONCLUDES THAT A COMMUNITY-WIDE ADVISORY COMMITTEE, DRAWING TOGETHER INTERESTED PARTIES, OFFERS A USEFUL MECHANISM. THE PROBLEMS FACED BY THE EDUCATOR IN THE CORRECTIONAL INSTITUTION ARE CONSIDERED. THE DILEMMA IS THE CONFLICT BETWEEN ITS DUAL FUNCTIONS OF CUSTODY AND REHABILITATION. THE AUTHORS PROPOSE A MODEL AS A STANDARD AGAINST WHICH TO DEVELOP AND ASSESS THE CONTINUING EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM OF THE CORRECTIONAL INSTITUTION. A LIST OF REFERENCES IS PROVIDED. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT)
