THIS ANNUAL REPORT OF THE DETROIT, MICH., POLICE DEPARTMENT PRESENTS NARRATIVE REPORTS, PHOTOGRAPHS, AND STATISTICAL TABLES DESCRIBING THE DEPARTMENT'S WORK DURING 1979.
Abstract
INDIVIDUAL SECTIONS REPORT ON HIGHLIGHTS OF THE YEAR, DEPARTMENTAL ORGANIZATION, ACTIVITIES OF EACH DEPARTMENTAL DIVISION, AND THE WORK OF THE MANAGEMENT SERVICES AND PERSONNEL BUREAU. THE DEPARTMENT MADE 30,605 FELONY ARRESTS AND 35,540 MISDEMEANOR ARRESTS DURING THE YEAR. ALMOST 12,000 JUVENILES WERE DETAINED. A TOTAL OF 195,895 MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENT REPORTS WERE FILED. THE VALUE OF STOLEN PROPERTY RECOVERED WAS $57,890,959. A TOTAL PART ONE OFFENSEE WERE COMMITTED. OF THESE, 22,769 WERE CLEARED BY ARREST. TOTAL PART ONE OFFENSES WERE ALMOST THE SAME AS IN 1978, BUT DECLINED BY OVER 10,000 FROM THE 1977 TOTAL. OF THE 10,571 PART ONE OFFENSES WHICH WERE PROSECUTED, 3,276 RESULTED IN CONVICTIONS, 2,998 IN NONCONVICTIONS, AND 4,307 ARE PENDING. OTHER TABLES DESCRIBE MONTHS AND DAYS ON WHICH OFFENSES OCCURRED, RACE AND SEX OF OFFENDERS, OBJECTS OF PROPERTY OFFENSES, ARREST DISPOSITIONS, TRAFFIC VIOLATIONS, ACCIDENT STATISTICS AND JUVENILE OFFENSE STATISTICS.
