A SURVEY OF VICTIMS AND COMPLAINANTS BY THE CHICAGO POLICE DEPARTMENT INDICATED THAT OVER 100 CASES PER DAY WERE RATED BY CITIZENS AS RECEIVING UNSATISFACTORY SERVICE.
Abstract
WHILE THIS IS ONLY 1.5 PERCENT, IT IS STILL DEEMED UNACCEPTABLE. IT WAS FOUND THAT THE MOST DISPROPORTIONATE NUMBER OF UNSATISFACTORY RESPONSES CAME FROM PEOPLE OVER 60 AND SPANISH-SPEAKING CITIZENS AND THAT 65 PERCENT WERE PROPERTY CRIMES. SOME OF THE REASONS INCLUDE IMPERSONALITY, LANGUAGE BARRIERS, AND OPTIMISM BY POLICE CONCERNING THE RECOVERY OF STOLEN PROPERTY.
